intro

Hello everyone,
Since this is my first post I'll suppose I should introduce myself. About 3 years ago when I was in the Navy my buddy got a little beta setup and suggested I get one myself when he noticed me admiring it. I had never owned an aquarium, and no one I was close to ever had to my knowledge. So i consider it and in my usual fashion decide I will indeed get an aquarium but no mere betta will suffice. I had happened upon a certain puffer fish, a GSP specifically. I kept one in a 10 gallon for about 9 months before having the whole setup away to go on deployment.
When I got back (and once again being able to connect to the internet!) I began researching the keep and care of a GSP puffer, and found out that they are born in river tributaries that are mostly fresh water, but spend adolescence where the river merges with the ocean, then eventually in their prime move out into the open ocean. My mind followed suite, and I decided (in my usual fashion) to raise a GSP into adulthood (eventually full saltwater) and get another tank to build a reef.
I set up a 29g tall tank, and maintained it for about a year and a half with success untill I moved into an apartment where it can only be placed in the basement. Which is unfurnished, and rarely visited for anything other than laundry and well, reef maintenance which was beginning to slack. And this brings us nearly to the present state of affairs.

Oceaning BioCube8

I decided that I was going to rip down my 29g Tall tank and start over. This time I thought that I would go smaller, allowing me to have the tank near my computer; which is where I spend alot of my time. I had considered going for the JBJ 28g HQI, but the LFS had this BioCube on sale for 125 bucks, and I had the money in my pocket.........

Anyhow, I ended up also purchasing:

4lb's LR (added 2 pieces from 29, bringing me at approx 5.5 lbs)

1lb small rubble (first thing in, then sand, then LR)

10lb's live substrate (one grade larger than sugar, i forget)

2x Natures Ocean: Nutri-SeaWater (going to do 20% water changes with this bi-weekly)

25 watt stealth heater

API's saltwater master test kit which resulted in

pH------7.9
Ammonia0.0 ppm
Nitrite---0.0 ppm
Nitrate--10.0 ppm

Have a refractometer on order, should be here next week. Heres some pic's!

(using my roomates camera, figuring out how to work this thing as I go lol)

Thanks for dropping by my thread, looking forward to having something to update!

I'm a bit concerned about my temps with this cube though, current temp is at 84f, with a 24 hour low of 83.3 and a high of 86.4 :anxious

ordered 2x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835168013 to replace stock fans in canopy, and looking at those juicy new mp10's to come out suitable for nanotanks as small as 2.5g! The mp10's motor is external, using magnets to drive the rotor.. capable of some pretty nice settings i might add, take a look at this thing!
