and my water has gotten clowdy. The ammonia is off the charts. I know that that is normal but parts of the LR are turning white and black. That means that they are dying right? Is that normal?

also... i have noticed a ton of little things that look like clear worms. there are little ones all over the rock and even a big thick on inside one of the rock holes. I thought I read somewhere that worms are bad... is that true?

Where'd you get your LR from? How long was it out of water? You mentioned the bad smell in your last posting. That right there makes me think either you bought some bad rock or it was out of water too long. the only time I have bad smells coming from my tank are with skimate and algae. Can you post some pics of the rock?

The worms are fine for now. eventually when you get some life going you might want to remove them depending on what kind they are.

Make sure you keep the lights off during your entire cycle.

Let's see what others have to say.

Bad smells only mean bad things. I think you are just going to have a rather long cycle. If nothing else is in the tank, but the lights off and just add top off water and let it be for a couple weeks.

The rock was out of water for just over 3 hours. The guy at the fish store told me that it would be fine. It is growing this white film that looks like mold.

It should be fine. As long as it smells like the ocean-gone-bad that it is good. The die-off is normal if it was out of the water that long. The key thing is to let it run it's course. Dont do any major water changes for a while. Some people suggest curing the rocks in a bucket or a bin out in the garage because it can smell. After the water clears up and the smell starts to go away, test the water every few days to monitor the cycle. Once that is over, do a large water change... maybe 30% or more and go from there.

I took the rock out per suggestion of my local pet store and did a 3 cup water change for two days so now I have the rock that I bought originally and my water is 100 percent better. Barely a trace of ammonia.

So what did you do with the Rock? Is it dry or did you put it in a bucket with water? Are you going to get more or put that back in at some point?

I threw it out. It was disguisting. I am going to get more rock from my local aquarium store. Her rock is cured and i wont have to go through all of this again! lol

Wow...I would have kept it and dried it out to use as base rock in the future. But at least you have another better source of rock so you can get back on track.
