Snail ID

Hi Guys,

I ordered a few snails a while back and I am not too sure what I got. I ordered Astrea Snails and Margarita snails.

I am no too sure what this is, but he seems to keep my tank clean.

Here is a pic if anyone knows please let me know.

It does remind me of an Astraea Conehead Snail, with its pyramidal in shape. I had a bunch of Astraea Snails in my tank, but they slowly died, as they fell upside down and were unable to right itself. I only have a few left now.

its either a margarita or nerite snail, hard to tell, but im leaning towards nerite.HTH

Nerites appear more upright, this is a margarita snail.

i know my tend to do that too but eddy is to the rescue or cleaner and we flip them and i havent lost any nock on wood... :lol3: :lol3: and about ID i think is a nerite snail cause of the shape look at this pic.

Well im not edgray, but i had the pleasure of seeing his tank and taking that picture. It is a red-head goby....very nice fish.

YEAH my amazing avatar was taken by super jesse :lol: :lol: and indeed is my baby redhead goby with his colony of zoo's... hes read head is not that bright cause still young but when he get older and brither ill post more pics of him ;-) . thx for amazing avatar jesse

Thanks guys, I knew I got something I did not order.

Are the nerite snails good ones to have? They seem to be working harder then the rest of my cleaning crew.

i have liek five in my tank and they are the best ones i have found for cleaning the glass....on another note they have layed millions of egg sacks(well not millions but closes). havent noticed any babies around..yet

YEAH mine are the same way they are super great they always keep the back of my tank really clean they tend to clean more than my other lazy snails. they clean rock & glass but mine even try to clean the sand not a great job like r & g but they are doing their best.... i give the nerite the 1st place on cleaning my tank....

Either way, nerite or margarita, they are good cleaners. There are some netrites that are intertidal and like to climb out of the water, these are not harmful to the tank but can be a pain because they occasionally go carpet surfing.
