Seaweed

Ok, i went to the coast today and found some seaweed in the water (it was alive and well, not floating) so i picked it and thought i could put it in my tank, now i was just wondering if anyone had experience with doing something like this at all? So i don't crash my tank, it kind of looks like kelp to me...

Anyhow, do you reckon it's safe to put on my tank? I've been inspecting it and it's got some copepods living on it a nd a couple of small snails...

I wouldnt do it...you dont know what kinda chemicals an other nasty stuff is in/on it. It wont live either... there is only one marine aquarium in the nation that has been able to successfully house kelp...to the best of my knowledge... and that is Monterey Bay Aquariums. They use water pumped in from the amazingly clean bay and natural sunlight.
