Salt
Hydrometer
Powerhead (anywhere between 5 - 10x tank volume per hour will suffice)
Internal filter
Aragonite substrate/"live sand"
Live rock
Master test kit
Heater

Depending on whether you're doing a full-on tank or a "self-regulating" (with some help) nano, you may or may not need a chiller and a protein skimmer.

A great deal of patience and a fair amount of disposable income.

That should be enough to get you started :)

All the info you'll need will be online, so you can save your money for the expensive task ahead.

What you'll need is based on what you want to do. It is reccomended that to start you do a FO(fish only tank) or a FOWLR(fish only with live rock tank). You dont have to worry about keeping your water as pristine as a reef tank with a FO or FOWLR, but they dont look nearly as nice as reef tanks.

I'm starting a tank soon(also a 28g) and since im new I'll be doing a FOWLR but eventually want to be successful with inverts and corals.

What I'm getting is:
130w light(already have but not needed if you're doing FO or FOWLR)
Protein skimmer(reccomended for reef tanks)
Heater
Live sand
Live rock
Salt(already have)
Hydrometer(already have)
Powerhead

And I think thats it.

I would have posted this earlier but I had to go to work. Looking at your tank, all you'll really need is live sand, live rock, salt, hydrometer, and a heater. You might need filter media as well. That's a nice little kit.

They got you covered. You have an HQI tank so you are equipment wise ready for corals, but I recommend reading all you can and go slow. First best thing to do is just live rock, live sand, and salt water in the tank and let it "cycle" as you read up on all the things out there. Check out the threads here and see if you get "inspired"!

 :cool1:
