Rock on Sand question

I remember reading (a while ago) that you shouldn't set your rock on top of the live sand because something bad will happen where they contact. Does anyone have an answer for this?

Specifically I purchased my first coral today Green Button Polyp and the perfect place would be low in the tank BUT it would be on the sand.

You don't want sand blown up onto your LR. If you see this just take a turkey baster and 'blow' it back off of your LR. This is because the sand inhibits flow to the LR. This is unavoidable on the bottom of LR or the LR that corals come on. Don't worry about it. Just place the button polyps where you think they should be and see how they do.
