Removing the frame/brace on 10g

Has anyone ever removed the framing/bracing on a 10 gallon tank? If so, have you had any problems? How did you do it?

TIA,

If you're talking about the plastic ring that surrounds the top of the tank than yes, you can remove it but you lose it's purpose. The tank will have nothing but silicone holding the glass panes togther and it you fill it full I'd be prepared for a cleanup sooner or later. You'll probably want to take a razor and break the bead around the top......gently pry and sooner or later it'll come off.

May I ask why you want to do this?

I wouldn't bother doing this with a 10 gal. I did cut out the center braces on my 75gal and 40 gal oceanics, because the center braces on these tanks are huge, and block light. I didn't leave it unbraced though, I went back in and put 3" strips of 3/8" glass all the way around the 75, basically creating a eurobrace. I only put 2 strips of the same size glass on the 40.

What's your reason for wanting to do this on a 10? I think it would probably be fine, I've seen more than one home made tank that was in the 10-15 gal range that didn't have the plastic bracing, but most of them were custom made with thicker glass than the normal 10gal tanks.

Another thing you all haven't mentioned is that sides that are not going to be exposed to the touch when being made, are not grounded down so when you remove the bracing, you will have very sharp edges on the top area of the glass, just a warning. Found this out when I wanted to have a tank made for me that would not need to bracing and they were going to charge me more for making the top touchable.
