Remora Aqua C HOB Skimmer

So, I finally came to the realization that with my wife Stacy due in December, finances low for various reasons and a general lack of time - mostly because of business issues - I will NOT have time to build my sump/fuge and do everything the way I want to.

So, I bought a Remora Aqua C HOB Skimmer and installed it today.

I did not get the surface skimming box, unfortunately. But it installed easily and startup was a breeze. Hopefully this will help clean up the tank and get rid of that pesky scum layer I have been wicking off the surface with paper towels a few times each week.

The unit seems to be pretty nice. It’s small... relatively quiet... (although it’s located in my son’s bedroom and my wife thinks it is too noisy) I guess we’ll see how it all works out!

You will probably have to get the surface skimmer unit to be free from the "oil slick". It's only 30 bucks.

How long does it generally take to break in?

also, Does anyone have an opinion one way or another if I was considering placating the wife and putting that puppy on a timer? Maybe just not skimming at night?

yeah its normal, you will also get them when you feed the tank, or the chemistry of the water changes. i noticed when i had mine, when i stuck my hand in the tank it would start to put out bubbles.
