I dont do reefcentral that much but it will be a huge loss for the reefing community I would think that there is more to the story than meets the eye , something behind closed doors that we the public are not seeing
I agree that there are alot of flames there and cliques which is why I dont post there but do read the site at times . Such a shame

I e-mailed Anthony Calfo about this personally and it is indeed a tragedy. This was either brought on by a board growing too big or (more than likely) because some of the administration began to play favorites. All is not lost though for any of us that wish to speak with an expert, after being booted so to speak they landed at Marine Depots forum ( http://www.marinedepot.com/forums/ ). The experts have a greeting at the beginning of each of their forums that explains a little (for the most part they want the incident behind them so they can forget about it) but IMO the main thing is that they are accessable for any of our questions. Here is a little piece of trivia for you, one of the first posts on the thread that was linked comments about getting the experts for nano-reef, this person is basically told that the experts think of nanoers as a sub-lifeform of the hobby. Here is my question: did any of you know that one of the experts is a nano-reefer himself? They have a ViaAqua 18 gallon nano, can you guess which one?

As far as this hurting RC, time will tell. I haven't spent much time on RC for the past year and I couldn't figure out why (it was like I lost interest in the hobby but I foolowed other boards so that couldn't be it) until Anthony mentioned how the "flavor" of the board has changed. I simply didn't feel at home there any longer. Things like them wanting you to pay to ever get access to the search engine and everytime someone asked a question they were told to do a search just made me feel like it was no longer a place I enjoyed being.
On a high note though it has done wonders for Marine Depots board with 778 new members since Jan 1 out of a total of 2,446 members overall.
I am getting off of my soapbox about this now, I feel it was a setback in our reefing community and a shame that things went the way they did.

It seems that there was a legitemate reason for isolating the supposed illegal images for further review, but I believe that it was handled incorrectly when eric(?) decided to DELETE the thread. I believe it was then handled incorrectly again when eric(?) was banned from the site by other admins. It appears that this "bomber" guy ,ay have had the illegal corals and claimed to have credentials that he really didnt have.

All in all, it appears that this whole situation quickly went out of control in a fit over overreaction on the part of many admins.

then again, who are we to come to ANY conclusion without actually being in that admin forum? Oh well, all in all i dont think that this will affect RC in any HUGE way. It will definetely be a loss not to have those brilliant minds on the site anymore though.

On a side note, I just registered at MarineDepot forums, where it seems that a few of the experts moved to. http://www.marinedepot.com/forums/

Wow,

I hope DJCONN doesn't get into a fight with our leading authority on reef tanks Mr. Incysor himself; that would be a great loss for us; wow just imagining it makes me quiver.

We are so lucky to have both of them leading our reefers over many hurdles every day.

The whole RC fiasco doesn't surprise me at all. It was the first place I went online many years ago when I first got into reefing and my frustration with many aspects of the site (slow-loading pages, poor organization, charge for search access) eventually led to the creation of this site. I figured I could really improve the overall layout and keep things simple and fun. I'm sure most everyone has noticed this by now, but this has to be one of the friendliest forums around.

Maybe some of those RC mods that have nano interests would like to come over here. I'd accept them with open arms. I'm being completely serious - if any nanotankers know any of those guys personally, please invite them to help out on our board.

;) Yup.

Personally, I'm sick to death of reading about it. It got old really fast what with blogs, fake blogs, people doing some really nasty name calling, threads being closed etc.
