Hey reefers,

Last night on RC, I posted casually my pics of my venture into the SPS world in a cube. And within minutes started getting some positive feed back and then without warning, one of there members, Newmoon attacked me hard about my inconsideration towards my clam.

He told me it will die and so will all my SPS corals. He didn't bother asking what components or upgrades were in my tank. He just said that I needed to put them in MH and nothing more.

I was really without words and asked him to place his expertise in a time zone of death on my tank of which he evaded to do so in his response.

I want to thank some users for comming in and defending my cube and taking into consideration the amount of time I place into my cube and it's many inhabitants.

Thanks for putting in your two cents in Incysor, it made the difference. And I'm glad you had your chance to talk before RC closed it down.

Here is the link so you reefers can see what took place last night, man it was a rumble in the jungle !!!!

They are lucky I didn't request Phischy to go in and give it to him with our famous quote: "take it or leave it, someone had to say it". J/k

Well, they do have some points but that's not really the point here. Your tank looks great and you've done a great job. You're, in terms of how reef keeping is generically defined, pushing the envelope in terms of what is considered good practices and bad practices. Either way, when you push the envelope you'll get people giving you crap about it. It's the way it goes.

With your tank as it is, and clam at the size it is (given everything I know of clams and their filter feeding dependant stages and photosynthetic dependant stages) you're good to go. Tank looks great.

I wouldn't be put off much by it. When I won RC's tank of the month back in 2k2 for my 20 gallon nano I got hate pm's about it for:

1) not using a skimmer...
2) people didn't believe a 150w HQI was ample light...
3) I'm endangering all my clams, SPS, LPS, softies, zoos, and shrooms...
4) blah, blah, blah....

Anyhow, I let it roll off my shoulders. The hobby is sometimes about pushing the envelope and when you do (not even specific to this hobby) you'll get flack.

so what makes you think you wont get flamed here? You are seriously putting your whole tank in danger, all your SPS look dead or dying, and that clam will dig it's own grave.....no ample light......no plankton feedings.
Do yourself a favor and give it somebody who can save the corals and clam of your tank and have them "THRIVE! not just SURVIVE"

Mike: I couldn't help it, I got so pumped I just had to go all out like new moon

My advice: Go slowly (oops that's Phischy's advice, hehe)

My real advice: Just baby the shit out of that and prove that your setup will work and will thrive, dont let other people that dont even own your setup tell you what will work and what wont. You are sure of it, so take care of them, and monitor your tank. In the end I hope you are able to show everybody that by pushing the envelope you can achieve such beauty in a cube of 12 gallons!

Seriously. Take lots of pics, and store them by date. It'll be great to have the documentation for the long run as you'll run into this time and again posting pics of your tank. There are a lot of people in this hobby that think that their way is the only way to do things, and anyone not doing it their way is doing it WRONG. It'd be nice to be able to link back to that thread in about a year with current pics showing growth in the clam and the SPS.

I know i'm still by some means an "amateur" to this hobby, but even the relatively new guys like me can spot a JACKASS when we see one.....new moon........definitely a JACKASS!!!!!!

On another note, i look to your tank, as well as many others on this site for inspiration and ideas for mine. The good thing about guys like you, incysor, and dragon, is that y'all always give us advice, even to the really stupid questions, in a polite and highly informed manner. Unlike the previously stated JACKASS......

Wow...RC is good at bringing that kind of crap to a discussion topic. Next time we are gonna unleash Phischy on their asses!

Who is M.Maddox? Is he on our boards here at NT?

not that I know of....you'd have to check the member names. He seems cool, maybe get um to join the "peaceful" site of nanotank if he isn't.

That is something I'd have to agree on what fireFISH had said. That is why I love NT so much. I've tried some other forums and it just seems like ppl dont care. Oh and I'll have to add DJconn to that list and I'm sure theres others I just cant think of them right now, Sorry. But hell I've seen the pics you leave Mike and I tell you what. If you say it can be done then it probally can :D

Vafik,

It's awesome to be able to contribute to everyone both novice and veteran. Thats is also why I love this site. I can post about a problem and in minutes, I'll have some type of answer.

I was folloing your thread on RC and i have to say newmoon was way out of line. i didn't see where you had asked any advice on livestock or lighting and while i believe newmoon has a right to his opinion i think he should have stated it and left it at that, instead he felt like he should force the issue but he didn't give any facts or figures to back up his claims, his respones where akin to "because i said so thats why"
i think your tank looks great and i wish you long term sucess with the clam and the sps

Cich1,

Thanks for your support and my corals and critters and especially my clam would like to say they are doing great. I will post another picture of them on Friday.

I'm trying to post bi-weekly so reefers can help out with ideas rather than critique.

Mike

P.S

Newmoon made me feel like I had foster children that I was neglecting. It was really uncomfortable with how he came across. But I'm glad I have supporters.
