I'm lookin to start a second tank, and since i already have a 20 gallon, i was thinkin something smaller. I noticed a couple of posts on the 12 gallon and was hoping to get some personnal feedback from owners, or anyone who knows a little about them. I found one for $120 with 48 watt lighting, is this a good price? Would a lighting mod be necessary?? Any links to sites offering it cheaper??? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!!!

Well let me start off by saying there is a 12 gallon JBJ nanocube deluxe set up in the kitchen. It's my girlfriends tank. Everything is stock, and is running fine. If you want to get crazy with lighting mods, talk to my brother, mike. He modified the 48 watts to 102 watts with a newer modded canopy. He has a bunch of posts all around here, check out general forum, tank photography section, and nano 20 and under. You'll see all the things he owns, and best of all they are detailed with the pictures. You'll gain everything you'll need to know.

If you want to stay stock like me, well you wont be getting clams and other types that require high lighting. You can easily own most things and not inquire a problem. So far in my g/f's tank is a medium sized torch, 1 small torch, 1 green star polyps, and this mossy thing that looks like grass. ( I forget the techical term) The rest of course is live rock and live sand with cleaner crew (snails and hermits). Remember you can also gain a lot of insight for any LFS's that have them setup already for you to gain an upclose visual and handle a lot of common questions you may have. Well I hope this helps.... laterz.

i'll probaly just keep it simple. Stay with the 48 watts like you. I could always upgrade later. Thanks for the help.

Hey firefish,
I've been thinking of getting a 12 gal nanocube as well. I think I can get two of them for under $100 each but I need to buy two of them. Its also local so you (and I) won't have to pay for shipping either. Let me know if you're interested and I'll look into it again.

I don't think they are the deluxe models but if we're going to upgrade the lights anyway, then why pay extra for the deluxe.

djconn,
I'm definitely interested in the nanocubes under $100. I think i'm gonna do a little more research on the extent of the lighting mods, check out exactly what i want, etc.....The nanocustoms site that mikeguerrero has posted seems like a great place to do business with. Keep me informed, i'm lookin to purchase as soon as possible. Gotta head back to College Station after break. Thanks a million.
