Please help on new nano tank selection....

Hello all....this is my first post to this forum. Im really interested in starting a nano tank but Im a bit hesitant because Ive been told that they are quite difficult to maintain. Im not a complete noob as I did run 75 gallon reef tank 5 years ago but I am little rusty with all the jargons and tech infos. Im glad I found a forum specifically for nano tanks because this pretty much a new world of reef tanks to me being that they are so small. So...Im gonna be on this forum a lot from here on out.

To start out, I really need a complete setup but Im at a loss of even where to begin. I want an all in one tank that ranges anywhere from 14-25 gallons to go into my home office. I have looked at Oceanic Bio cube and JBJ nano tanks and although they seem pretty nice, Im sure there are better ones out there. Any other brands that you guys can suggest?

Also, I also have a few noobie questions so any help would greatly be appreciated.

1) What is the major factor that can make or break the success of maintaining a nano?

2) What is the maximum number of fish that I keep in a nano of App 20 gallons?

3) Is a protein skimmer necessary in a nano or will the wet dry filter suffice?

4) What do you guys think of the Aquapod 24 gallon setup? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/p ... 3976&rel=1

5) I will be getting all the live rock and most of the water from my friends reef tank. Would I still need to let it go through the cycle or could I begin adding fish and corals in a few days?

6) Of all the nano tanks available, is there a particular brand that comes with the compact flourescent lighting or are all of them the same.

Sorry for all the questions but I want to make sure that I do it right. I would be grateful for any information/help you guys can lend. Ive missed this hobby so much but a nano is all my budget allows for now. Thanks a million....

welcome to nanotank.....

1. waterchanges and patience
2. i personally wouldnt go with anymore than 4, but you can.
3. you dont need a skimmer , if you keep up with regular water changes
4.dont personally noow about them, but i have heard they are good.
5.the cycle should be minimal, you should still monitor the parameters.
6.with PC's they are all pretty much the same.

Erik covered it pretty well. One thing that I can suggest is take time to use the search button near the top of the page. You should be able to find quite a few threads on which all-in-one tank is better. It seems to be personal choice as each has it's own pros and cons.

:welcome ... All i can say is all the all in one tanks are great but things you should be thinking off you dont need more than 3 chambers on back cause then is too crowded to clean them and finally they all have bad light setups 4 sure not if you gonna stick with borring color of corals or low light stuff ... but if you are like us that like colorful stuff and strong light corals then all in one tanks not for you only if you do DIY mod on lighting or to get your tank at NANOTUNERS.COM since they MOD the light of nanocubes & aquapods they are the best way to go at first the light will look expensive like i did but in the long run i added all the thing i got for my lightning and i spend more than just getting the mod at NANOTUNERS well just my opinion...

EDDY..

P.S: Hope you find the best setup for you....they all good in their own ways...
