Pictures Finally

I finally got a camera for Christmas that will take decent tank pictures. :clapping: I've been playing with the settings today and got my first pictures. My nano will be 1 yr old next month. It has been a very slow process for me because I have no LFS that carries saltwater stuff. The nearest one is about 2 hrs away. Are those brittle stars in one picture? I think so, but I have never seen the body, only the legs waving around. They grab food and bring it into the rock.

Thanks for looking,
Pooh

Ok I'm not proud of my rock work. I have limited means in this area of the country. I'm not one to order stuff online because I want to see it first. I have thought about busting up that big flat piece and see what I can do with that but I'm afraid I'll just have smaller flat pieces. Any suggestions?

first suggestion...easy on the flakes. only add a couple flakes and wait for the fish to eat them before adding any more. it is very easy to overfeed and that can cause skyhigh nitrates and ammonia in such a small environment. be more concerned about overfeeding the fish rather than underfeeding. Secondly, try to break up the pieces with a flathead screwdriver and a hammer. smaller pieces are easier to work with in a nano.

Your tank does look good though, you may want to increase the water flow in your tank by increasing the size of the powerhead currently in you nano's filter as well as adding a rio 50 or a hydor pico pump...both are very small, less than 2"x2"x1 1/2". i say this because it appears than you have red slime algae along the front of you tank...this could be because of both lower water movement in that section along with overfeeding.

hope i helped you out.

I have to agree, be careful how much you feed. I feed my nano 2 or 3 times a week and have very fat, happy fish.
If I were going to break a rock up it would be the one towards the left in the pic, the one on the right looks good the way it is IMO. LIke jesse said, smaller rocks are easier to aquascape with in a nano.
I think the most popular pump used to upgrade is a MiniJet 606, at one time they were even giving these away in Instant Ocean buckets as mixing pumps. They are relatively inexpensive (try online if they are too high in your LFS) at around $15 online.

wow that is a great looking tank . Yes easy on the flakes we are fighting an over feeding problem at this time it is no fun the problems that it can and will eventually cause
Watch out for the hydor pico pumps I had 2 and both seized up even with weekly cleanings I dont know if maybe I got 2 bad ones but they would seize up and get very warm just food for thought (I had them in the tank for 3 months be for I got fed up with it seizing they seized up in the first 2 weeks of operations) , I changed out to the mini jets and like them.I have had the mini jet 404 and two 606 's for over 3 months and have had 0 problems yet with them . The mini jets are not much bigger than the hydor pico pumps .
