Is the shrimp trying to clean it or eat it?

Well since it had been nearly 3 weeks since it's last meal, I don't think it cared much about whether it was clean or not.

that's awesome. I'd like to try the harlequin since I had no luck with my Tiger Shrimps. Do the Harlequins do better in pairs? And will they work as a team to turn over the chocolate chip star and then eat it? Also you have to try out a sand sifter star, I am curious to know whether it'll eat it when it surfaces, lol.

They'll only do well in pairs if they are already a mated pair when you buy them. If they're the same sex they'll kill each other. If they're opposite, they may still not pair up and kill each other. Mine was half of a pair when I got it. The smaller one disappeared one night. The only thing I could think of was that it wandered too close to the tube anemone. There just wasn't anything else large enough to get it in the tank. They did work together to turn the star over and keep it turned over.

I'm not going to try a sandsifter. I've already got a SS in my 75g, and in my 40g. I personally think that putting them in a tank under that size is dooming them to death by starvation. They're also about $18 here. Chocolate Chips are $6 or less. If I got it and the harlequin ate it, I just gave it a really expensive meal. If it doesn't eat it, I'll just have to return it to the store, because I don't have room for another one. Returning it I'd be lucky to get $5 credit on it.

crap, speaking of which, I forgot......I'll need to be ridding myself of it soon. It's really cool, and it's keeping the sand crystal white, but.... I hear that them sticking around longterm they take the "live" right out of live sand, and also at which they die of starvation.

Harlequin shrimps are very rare and deserve a tank just for them. They will require a lot of clean water and the deposit of one star per month.

It's sad that the star has no chance of survival as it's eaten alive, literally. If you have time for another investment dive right in.

I had harlequin shrimp a pair, for about 1 year. They defend themselves really good against other fish or shrimp.

They are not as delicate as they appear.
