Hi guys, just wanted to know if you have an occy or a perc of any sort in a BTA. Thinking of getting one for my tank, a BTA first, i mean.

It seems to me, many of you american reefers are able to get them to do so, despite BTAs of any sort not being natural hosts. Secondly, im trying to see if colour of the BTA affects hosting, it seems more occy/perc clowns tend to host in RBTAs more than anything else.

I have a pair of false percs. They are approx. 5 years old. They have hosted the following anemones..

6 or more Roses
3 Ritteris
3 Sebaes
2 Bubble Tips - Regular

They love sebaes and Ritteris the most. However, they will host most any BTA anemone.

Hosting

Hey. My clown hosts in my blue tipped Xenia. The BTX isn't too thrilled about it. It also tries to host in the Pulsing Xenia but that one isn't having it at all. It closes.

Yeah, my black percs that I had before I gave them away - used to host GSP and Anthelia. Anything that "swayed" or had "tentacles". People beleive that tank raised percs don't know how to "host" because they are tank raised.

I don't beleive that. After millions of years of evolution, that's an instinct you just can't "breed" out of something.

My percs host both my GBTA, and RBTA. They also both liked the electric green carpet that I had for about a week. The black ocellaris I had was hosting a GBTA in the store when I got it, but never, ever hosted the GBTA I had in the tank with it.

I'm with you here. They will generally try to host something, but the tank raised ones do seem to have their own weird definition of an acceptable host. I had 3 tank raised occelaris over a 2yr period. One hosted a patch of mushrooms, (smooth ones, not hairy ones), one hosted a power head, and the last one hosted the cleaning magnet.

Yup. They may not know "what" to host since this is something that can get lost as time progresses, but the nature to host something period is there.

They do host some weird things, that's for sure.

The true perc I just got a couple weeks ago is showing interest in the suction cup of my heater. The heater is just hanging in the back corner of the tank and the clown seems to be spending alot of time back there. I was hoping he'd find the xenia, but right now the xenia is in a pretty high flow area and the clown doesn't like all that flow.

Ok. Didn't know if you wanted him to host or not. Was just going to give you some advice but seems like your smart enough to figure it out :D
