A picture would definitley help. To me, it sounds more like some kind of pod. REad through these articles and look at the pictures to see if any of them match your critter.

FWIW, the carpet anmeone could have died for numerous reasons. Can you share some more info about your tank. Size, lighting, water params, and when it was set up. THanks!

Not sure why you can't access the links. They work for me, and I link these articles frequently for people. Try copying and pasting them into your browser.

They worked for me as well, both at home using firefox, and at work using IE.

Bent millipedes sound like amphipods, which are harmless.

There are some types of fireworms that will reportedly will eat anemones. But they look a lot like bristleworms.

Isopods look more like pill-bugs, but they're usually fish/shrimp parasites not anemone predators.

Carpets are difficult to keep, especially the brightly colored ones. My guess is that it was unhealthy when you got it, and the stress of being put in your tank didn't do it any good and it started to go, and what you saw were just amphipods scavenging the dead tissue. But that's just a guess. Without pics, trying to ID anything is usually just that, guessing.
