Pairing clowns...

i have a small (maybe 1") Ocellaris clown and i was wondering what the chances would be of finding a small black perc to pair with him? do you think they would get along and possibly pair up or do you think it would be a death sentence for one of them?

i love my little guy, hes been alone for the full 2 months ive had him, but i think it might be nice to get him a friend and clowns seem to have some of the best personality...

it's a hit or miss. You'd have to monitor and see, and if they go to war and see one trying to kill the other, you would just have to simply return it and get something else.

so you think it could be possible though? my main concern wasnt whether or not they would get along in general it was whether or not an ocellaris would pair at all with a black perc....

I gave my brother my two Ocellaris black vairant clowns, and in his 72 gallon he had two perculas. My brother saw that the male percula wanted to pair up with my female Ocellaris black Variant.

It's possible though, but who knows, that could have been just sheer luck...

ps

because my bro didn't want to see the pair split, he took out his natural percs from his tank....that and the two males kept fighting over my female....go figure!

Black percs, are just a different color variant of occellaris. There is no black true perc.

That said, it's very possible that they'll pair up. I had a black clown that was paired up with a true perc with little to no problems. Try to get a black clown that's smaller than the clown that you already have. That'll cut down on some of the dominance issues.

When I introduced Dragons mated pair of black ocelleris variants, my mated pair of percula clowns did the unexpected. The male perc started fighting with the male black ocelleris as he wanted to steal his bride.

He started winning and was in the process of being married and as he quickly divorced his mate for the larger female.

I removed both percs and took them back to the LFS...

But it was funny because it was an interracial marriage taking place in my tank; I would've accepted it had I not felt bad for the previous husband the little black ocelleris deserved to keep his wife.
