Northern California species...

I was on highway 1 along the coast today doing my route and wondered if I could ever collect anything from these shores. I never thought that the California coast could ever be clear. I was up north near Fort Bragg/Mendocino. If any has or any has a link I'd be greatful... I wanted a clean up crew or any starfish actually anything in general. I thought it would be nice to say I got this from the ocean myself and got to see it in a reef tank. Thanks

I believe that catalina gobies are native to the California coast. Abalone are also available but I think they are not the same species we keep in larger tanks, I think those are actually a tropical species that we keep. I think some cleaners like hermits come from southern CA to Mexico and I seem to recall some snails native to the Baja.

You need to live in Florida as the species from the coast are at the right temperature and climate for what you would like to do.

California coast is cold water species and will perish in your tank...
