Hi Henry and :welcome
I can't give the absolutes on the 12 gallon but I can say that if you are going to keep corals lighting is very important . Circulation will also be important I have 2 mini jet 606's running in the 7 gallon and a 404 in the 2.5 gallon . It helps keep away the dead spots that would other wise support algae growth, like your cyanos ,red slimes ect.......you just dont want it shooting the fish or the water out of your tank
The pointers that I can give you is to utilize the search bar at the top. Also try to pick a theme and decide what corals you want to go with this will also help in deciding on the mods and upgrades some things require high light and high flow (most corals require high lighting) so that should be a mod /upgrade you want to do. Go with the top quality or high quality from the begining why pay 2 times for one thing , we had that in the beging with upgrading lights pumps powerheads ect when it would have been cheeper to buy the good ones first
. Read read read . Go slowly . Patients is a vertue in this hobby and at times it is stressful. But in the end it is rewarding to have your own slice of the ocean ....The last thing that I will offer is that water testing and quality is a must and should be a top priority , this hobby is not cheep but it is fun. I am sure others will build on this or offer diffrent points of view as well you have come to a place where the folks are great at answering questions and because it is small it may take some time to get the questions answered .......HTH and welcome
