Hi guys, Im in the process of gathering as much info as i can before i even think about starting up a marine tank.

Ive kept tropical for years and have decided the next step up for me would be a nano.

Now i would like to know which size is best for an amature like myself to start off with?

I dont want what i think people would term a pico? Sounds much too small, but Im unsure visually what the size difference is from say a 24gal to a 30+gal.

Does anyone have any pictures for comparison? My eyes hurt after trawling through shop photos of tanks where i cant see them in comparison to anything.. :cryinga:

:welcome to Nanotank.com SSS!

Best size is kind of up to you, based on what space you have available for a tank, how much time you want to spend a week on maintenance, What you want to keep right now, and what you might want to keep in the future. Looks like you are looking at the 20 -30 gallon range though. If you like the look of an AIO (All in One) I would go with a 29 gallon Biocube. They have a nice design, all of the equipment you need can be hidden behind the wall and you have plenty of space for rock, coral, fish, and enough room to work in when you have to put a hand in the tank. With this tank, all you need to buy is pretty much just a heater, some other stuff, is optional, like the skimmer, different pumps, etc. I started out with a 14 gallon Aquapod (kind of same concept as a Biocube) and I wish I would have kept it. If you want to go another route, you could just buy a 20 gallon tank, a 20 gallon long is nice for a reef as it is shallow, and then you can buy all of the components separate. Doing it that way gives you a chance to get all of the equipment you want as for as lights and pumps go. Well hope that helped a little. Sorry I don't have some perspective photos for you.
