New tank for an idiot

Hi everyone
Hope you can assist me as I am a marine/nano virgin.
I have recently purchased a 45 litre tank which consists of lighting, two fans and I have added a small submerged pump and an external pump with an air stone. For the filtration I have removed all the media with the tank including the bio balls The tank has three chambers to the back of it. In the first chamber I have added cured fuji/figi?? live rock and a layer of filter floss jsut below the water level. The second chamber houses my heater and the third is the powehead/venturi/water return(think thats what you call it). I have 4 kilos of the same rock in the tank with about 1 and a half inches of damned expensive substrate The tank has been cyclin for 2 weeks and I recently checked the nitrites and nitrates which were a bit high. Just to add I have no protein skimmer so I assume its not the berlin system. Would you call it biological filtration?? I also did a 20% water change and the water I have used and been adding is conditioned from my local shop with no chlorine or nitites/nitrates. So really my questions are. Have I got it right with the filtration and the removal of all my media???. Should I add a skimmer or stick with regular partial water changes??? Whats the best way to remove all the crap falling of the live rock onto the substrate or should i leave it??? I also have a little friend which I think is a gorilla crab the size of a thumb nail, should I remove him??? So I am really waitng for the levels to be correct then add some soft corals and guess what, do you have any ideas on what type of corals to keep in such a small tank which are ideal for an idiot like me???? Looking at the movement of the algae/ organisms on the live rock the water flow does seem to be quite strong in areas which i assume is from the submerged pump. Thanks for reading. So its 11 gallons (had to convert that) Can you create one of he chambers to hold algae? basically turn it into a refugium? If you can, I'd take out the filter floss since it can be a nitrate factory. If you do need it always keep an eye on it. For the skimmer, I'd prefer one! But then again, if you don't mind water changes then you can go that route too. For the "Crap" turkey baster and blow it, then do a water change. You should have a good water flow so your filter should be able to get it out? Take the crab out too!!!!! ASAP...
