To be honest, I dont know why you would try to cram 50 to 70 lbs of live rock into a ten gallon tank. Please note that I am not trying to be mean or agressive, but if your goal is to keep what sounds like a pair of mandarins, you should stop. I have never housed a mandarin, but i know that they are a peaceful fish, unless there is another of the same species present in the tank. A pair, especially in a 10 gallon, is a bad idea. As for a 10g with 50 to 70 pounds of live rock, why not just put that into a 30g or bigger which would look more appropriate. Plus, if you end up trying to fill a 10g with 50 or so pounds of live rock rubble, I dont know how much space is going to be left in the tank or between the pieces for the fish to swim around in. The minimum space requirement for this fish is 30 gallons, not just because of the population of copepods needed for this species, but also because this fish needs that kind of space.

As for the lighting, whether you want lowlight corals or something more demanding, I would rethink the 1x40 watt. trust me, eventually you will regret it. Instead, I would recommend you go with the Coralife 1x96 watt ===> http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem. ... ct=ES53101 . There are people on this site that use it and like it. You can easily find it for around $80-$85. The other fixture that I would recommend is the dual Current Satellite 2x40 watt ===> http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem. ... ct=CU01012 . This is the fixture that I use on my 16g, and i like it. I do plan on bumping up my lighting by buiding a canopy over my tank and adding a third fixture, though. Note with all the current usa fixtures that it is difficult to find a fish store that sells the replacement bulbs, and when you do find them in fish stores, they are expensive. But Ive replaced both my bulbs through Drsfostersmith.com for $41 shipped to my house.

Hope I have been of some help to you, good luck!

reefman23 is absolutly right. do research manderines on wetwebmedia.com and you will see how ill advised it is. and as far as tank size goes even a 125, unless you had a very well aged and activly producing refuge, would be way too small to feed a pair of mandarins!!!
and I also agree with the lights I prefer to have two light fixure (as opposed to the 1 96W) simply so you can have a dusk dawn effect with actinics.

Is the light that you are going are using on the 10 g the same one you used on the freshwater tank? If so, you may want to check the temperature of the bulb (this will be printed on the base of the bulb). Most freshwater bulbs dont provide the right wavelength, or kelvin temperature, for a saltwater. Most freshwater bulbs are 6,500k or less, whereas saltwater are usually above 7,100k and supplemented with a form of actinic lighting. just something for you to look into.

It seems to me like you are more thrilled with keeping mandarins more than anything else. If this is the case, why not just go bigger? Follow my brother's tank. He has built up quite an incredible 72 gallon bow front. At least then, you'd have the space to accomodate such LR, and really build up something you could be proud of.

I told you myself, it was very hard to upkeep 1 mandarin, but I must have misread somewhere, because I was unaware you had 2 of them. Automatically when you get one more, you already need a bigger tank and johnanddawn mentioned.

Only recommendation I can say from what you are feeding the mandy's are that you could go to "bringshrimpdirect.com" and order this "http://brineshrimpdirect.com/store.cfm?d=3249&c=5279&p=27377&do=detail"
I own this, and it's the best and easiest way to produce your very own baby brine shrimp which holds nutrional value to your fish and of course to the mandys.

See if you can get some tank solutions and recommendations from Circle Pets in Long Beach. Ask for Chris, and tell him your problem. What you are doing now is sound more of a desperation thing to house mandys, and I am thinking instead of doing that to the mandys and yourself, see about going bigger.

Good luck and let us all know what you end up doing...
