What size tank will it be on? I personally like the blue 20,000k look. What kinda ballast does it have? this will effect the color a little.

It would be on a custom 16 gallon long tank. I'm not sure what kind of ballast but i know it supports a 250 watt bulb. Thanks Jesse

How tall would the tank be? Do you have a pic of the ballast? or a link? What kind of corals do you want?

Ballst type says: CWA (Its kind of distorted).

Height of the tank is 12 inch high sand bed is 4 inches and water will be only 6 inches above sand bed.

Corals will only be SPS and zoanthids/palys

Its only going to be a frag tank. I do have 130 watt PC's for actinics just in case I need that too.

that's alot of light for a tank that will only have ~6" of water! For a frag tank...probabl;y a 10,000k or 14,000k but hang it high... man, that will be intense! I dont know if I would do that... just IMO though.

Jesse,

I can always increase the water level and reduce the sand bed since I'm still cycling the tank itself. I'll just fill the water level to 8-10" and have the halide at a higher level. I'll take pics of the system once I clean up my place. Want to look presentable.

have you seen my frag tank:

i would not put sand in a frag tank - only live rock under the eggcrate, this is for bio filtration and stability and future frag rocks, the lack of sand allows for easier cleaning and won't collect detritus(well as much anyway). you really do not need much live rock (if any) and if you do eggcrate shelving this would allow you different levels of height for acclimation and lower light levels. 3 tiers could give you 6" 9" and 12" of water - if the bottom was bare
also that is a lot of light on a shallow tank - if you go stand alone MH i think i would go 20K. i see jesse recommended 10 - 14 and in general those will give better growth in your sps's (what you want in a frag tank) but i think because it is so shallow 20 K will give growth and it should color your zoas and sps up better and won't look so "yellow". if however you do choose to use the PC's then go actinic with them and 10 or 14K MH but be very careful acclimating them - you'll bleach if you don't raise the bulb way up or screen it, and start everything on the bottom shelf
just an idea
