i've just recieved my 36 watt coralife pc fixture that i'm putting on my 5.5. problem is, the light is 12x7 and the tank is 16x8.5. i'm planning on building a canopy but need ideas on how to secure the fixture inside. i'm thinking a piece of plixiglass fixed into the canopy to rest the light on. the top of the canopy will be open for cooling purposes. do you think this will work or will the plexi affect anything? any ideas or input will be greatly appreciated.

I would rethink the plexi we had some on our tank that warped from the heat , while a hood is a good idea with plenty of vent try fastening some egg crate to the top . As for fastening it to the canopy could you drill it if not try some screws sticking out of the wood to allow it to rest on the screws .

I put my 32W X 2 CSL retos in my canopy. I just mounted them with the clips that they provided (with the reflector). Then then cut a nice piece of plexi to cover the lights. Mine hasn't warped at all. Its pretty thick.

The back of my canopy is open and has one little fan I installed. I'm going to oneday add another fan blowing out on the other side (one in/one out).

i've got the idea i think. i went today and got some L brackets. i'm just going to drill the aluminum housing on the light and put screws in it to hold.
