I need help I am making an over flow box out of a beta bow front tank its got the built in divder ( which I will cut down to allow for water flow) bt I need to know what size hole should I drill for the hose leading to the sump I have a 10 gallon tank and the sump is a 5.5 I will probably be using a power head for a return pump probably one of the aqauclears or rios and I will need to pump the water back up about 3 1/2 feet to the display so anyone that can give me the sizes of the hole and the return pump It would be most appreciatitive. thanks

You could probably get by just fine with a 3/4" drain but I would use a 1", this way if you put your arm in the tank to do maintenance or something it will not overflow. A 1/2" return is plenty for the set-up you describe.

I used one of the old style AquaClear 802s as my first return pump, it was on a 20 long with a 10 gallon sump in a standard 2x4 stand and it had pretty decent return flow. I did have to silicone the hole closed where you would connect the airline tube on the top of the outlet. A Mag 3 would also be a good choice for a return pump IMO. Shoot for around 350-450 gph and you should be fine, remember you will loose some of the flow to head pressure.
