I am thinking about buy the Nano Cube 24g Dlx. I have in the past had all fish saltwater tanks. This time I want to make a small reef tank that my 1yr old and wife can enjoy. The Nano seems to have a good mechical filter but what about a protein skimmer for the Nano? Anyone know of a good one?

Also what fish would you think I should get?

I dont think that there is a good skimmer designed for either the nanocube or any of the all-in-one tanks for that matter. The best way to go, in my opinion, is to start with like a standard 20 gallon or better yet a 20gallon long. This will allow you to get the lighting, skimmer, add a refugium, etc that YOU want and not what the manufacturer gives you. In other words you have a lot more flewixbilty now and down the road. I personally have a 20L and LOVE it. It is easy to light because of the 12" depth, and you have plenty of viewing space because it is 30" long.

In a 20-24 gallon tank, 3 or 4 small-sized fish would be good, depending on how efficient your filtration system is.

Hope that helps and welcome to nanotank.com!

:welcome to nanotank.

I think Jesse has covered the tank pretty well. One thing to note is that in a nano you usually do a weekly partial water change which negates the need for a protien skimmer.
