NEED A LITTLE HELP, I AM NOW TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN START INTRODUCING SOME CORAL TO MY TANK BUT MY SG IS 1.027(WHICH IS TO HIGH), I WILL BE GETING MY CORAL FROM DR FOSTERS & SMITH.COM AND I KNOW THEY KEEP THERES AT 1.025. WHAT IS THE CORRECT WAY TO LOWER IT WITHOUT HURTING THE CLEAN UP CREW OR DAMSEL IN THE TANK? SOMEONE HELP PLEASE...

What are you using to test your SG? If you are using a swing arm hydrometer I would suggest getting a second opinion from someone with a refractometer. If your SG really is 1.027 then depending on the size of your tank, remove about a half gallon of water and slowly add ro/di water that has been heated to match the temp of the tank.

One question though, how did it get that high to begin with?

I'm using a refractometer with atc i calibrated it with distilled water. I have a jbj 28 gallon nanocube & when I started the tank i used Nutri-Seawater (store bought) the company who makes it ships @ 1.027. I do not have a ro/di machine, so I will have to do it with stoe bought distilled water.

Cool. The distilled will work too. In the 28g I would do it 1/2 gal at a time. Give it about 30 minutes between every 1/2 gal.

Thank you so much Jesse, since you are a moderator I am sure this will make you happy. Nanotank.com is the only forum site that I use for any question I have, and I always get the answers I need. I will be uploading pictures once I introduce coral to the tank.
My reef tank (live rock, sand, clean up crew & yellow belly damsel) is 30 days old today!

That does make me happy to hear and thank you! Congrats on your tank to. Please do post some pics. Maybe even submit one for the contest!

Don't sweat it too much. That is a bit high but not terrible. The important thing is, if things get out of whack like that, which sometimes they do, don't panic and starting freaking out. Not saying that you are. Just saying in general. Some people will see something pretty minor wrong and go haywire and start doing crazy things to their tank just making it worse. When you get something that is not right, figure out what is wrong and usually try to change the situation slowly. Stability is one of the most important things in a SW tank. If you had high salinity and you changed it too fast, the shock would be more harmful than the high salinity. So, what you did is good. You weren't sure what to do, seemed to stay calm and came here to ask for help, got great information, and you listened to it and learned something. I learn new stuff every time I come here.

Thanks again Jesse it worked like a charm, I started introducing corals the following day. I have 6 small mushrooms, a purple kenya tree, an fuzzy blue staghorn acropora, a feather duster, a bulb tip anenome, lettuce sea slug, sexy amenome shrimp, various crabs & snails, damselfish & everything is doing great. I would love to enter the contest but i think my camara is crap.

No problem. Glad to hear that it worked for you.

I am a bit concerned though about a couple specimens, mainly the anemone and the sea slug. Make sure you research and learn as much as possible about those two.

I did alot of research & they seem to be ok. why what do you think. the anemone seems to have found a spot for himself, hes eating & not really moving around, and the sea slug is really active, he like to get blow aroung by the powerhead. The people at liveaquaria.com said they would be fine. Please if they steered me wrong let me know...
