Nanocube has arrived..... but...

Hey,

My NanoCube has finally arrived. It was supposed to be here on the 11th. I ordered it from ACI corp. Some things were missing from my order however...

The thing arrived and everything seems to work fine in the tank. It's a good thing I read up on this thing on the net cause there are no instuctions to speak of. Just a single sheet of paper with warrantee info.

Anyhow, my question, The thing seems to have a sticky residue on the inside of the glass, on the side and the bottom. It is very unsightly. It is almost like tape or sticker residue. What is the best way to get this crap off? I know the glass is supposed to scratch easily, so is there a chemical that could scrub it off and not leave residual traces to harm the livestock? I haven't filled it yet, the darn thing is so filthy inside it needs a real cleaning.

Sticky stuff

What I did was to take vinegar and let it sit on the sticky stuff, and then scrape it off the glass with a razor blade carefully.

I have also used Windex to dissolve the sticky stuff. Since you dont have anything in the tank yet, even water, as long as your rinse well, and you use very little of the windex there shouldnt be a problem.

While I am sure the glass can scratch, it's not like acrylic. I used a pretty hefty razor blade on it, and it was fine.

Hey Thanks for the info, the JBJ site was quite helpfull.

Okay, more questions...

Does anyone know where to find the serial # on this thing? The warranty sign up needs a model #,

and, I started the Tank cycling today and turned the PC lights on to get a feel for how hot it will get so I know where to set my heater. I went out for a few hours and when I came home, the PC's were off. I can not get them to come back on. The fans are working and so do the LED's. What the heck is going on? Has anyone else had a problem like this? I checked the fuse in the ballast and it is still good because the LED's shut off when I removed it. There was a faint burning plastic smell coming from the ballast as well. The ballast was tucked in the stand so I could not have gotten it wet or anything.

Please help someone

Oh, I found the Serial # on the back, needed a mirror and a flashlight to see it.

Does anyone know the actual capacity of one of these cubes? I filled it completely with less than 4, 5 gallon RO watter jugs. Kinda pissed cause I lugged 6 of these bloody things upstairs.

Umm if you smelled burining plastic it could be simply the first time it was turned on or something a little worse, a burn out in the electronics. I would first see if a new light would fix the porblem (maybe the LFS will lend you one to see if it is the bulb). It seems wierd that the LEDs and fans would work and not the lights, might be a bad ballast. I don't know the wiring on one of those things but maybe you could con a LFS guy to look at it you could get some answers. Hope things get better soon.

:::insert sheepish grin::: I'm so cheap I usually don't have items with guarantees. yeah Ed is right, use the guarantee. Sorry to give you misleading info.

Ok Idog--May I make a suggestion? Dont place your ballast in the NanoCube's stand. The ballast needs open air in order to cool properly. Leaving the ballast in the stand may cause it to overheat. Just a suggestion
