I just tried to start up my fission nano skimmer and almost overflowed my 24g nano cube. Could someone walk me thru this installation<I am engineering challenged and i need help. I have put the skimmer in the first compartment(the one to the left) above the chemipure bag and carbon bag<is this ok?Also how far above the water should the collection cup be ? I have a fuge in the middle compartment and my pump in the third compartment. Can I run the skimmer at the same time as the pump? Thanks in advance for your help.

I also have a question, so I will help in bumping this back to the top briefly. If one were to use a protien skimmer for a nano...would that do away with the need for carbon filters and such??

Sorry that I had nothing to add franems..

You would probably still need carbon to keep your water as clear as possible, carbon removes yellowing compounds as well as other chemicals that take the clarity out of your water. A skimmer removes organic compounds before they are broken down into ammonia and go through the nitrogen cycle, this helps keep nitrates from getting too high which we do in nano tanks by weekly water changes.

Fission Skimmer

I had (still do..if anyone wants to buy it cheap..used it for 2 weeks) a Fission Skimmer. Still have the box and instructions.

I placed mine in the middle compartment on my Nanocube 24dx. You may like the skimmer, but I felt it was extremely cheap for the $40 I paid after shipping. It is VERY difficult to adjust for water flow, bubbles, and the water level. I found it to be more of a pain than anything, and if you do ever fine tune it enough to actually work well, the cup is so tiny, it fills up quite fast. The little pump also added heat to my tank, which I disliked.

I pulled it out, and now its put in the fish junk box and other misc pet supplies I have. I have found routine water changes to be most effective if not more effective and less time consuming than using that little skimmer.

Good luck though. If you have individual questions about it, and its set up, PM me, and I will help you out.
