Nano 6g Light Buzzing

Hey guys,

The light on my 6g Nano wont turn on, i tried replacing the ballast and the bulb and neither would work. The LEDs flicker very lightly when I turn them on and dim immediately. when I plug in the cord into an outlet, the copper coils start making a buzzing noise that wont go away.

Do you guys know what the problem might be? Im assuming its the copper coils but I dont know how to wire those things and dont know where to get them either.

? I don't have a sure fire answer.

BUT ... hopefully someone else may. Reefman has played with the lighting a lot. I honestly don't know what you are referring to when you say copper coils. All the light I mess with is ..

power -> wire -> ballast -> wire -> bulb connector -> bulb

That is the T5, florescent, compact florescent ,and metal halide. If I am not mistaken there is a bit of printed circuit board that is in the mix somewhere in the 6 gallon. Have you tried calling the manufacturer?

No i havent called them. This tank is really old and i doubt i would still have warranty on it. Heres a picture of the copper coil i was talking about.

the number is 12 on the chart. I think its a magnetic starter. Assuming the copper coils got old and rustic and wont shoot a good start anymore. Just assuming though.

The setup goes
Switch> Copper coils> Circuit Board> Ballast> Bulb
> Fans
> Leds

The Circuit board is i think #10. The board branches from the coppercoils to fans leds and ballast.

The setup goes************
Switch> Copper coils> Circuit Board>
        • > Fans
          > Leds
          > Ballast> Bulb
It basically splits off from the circuit board

AH ok. Makes sense now. I haven't researched it so this is just an educated guess. But I think that is what is helps put the voltage at the right level. Sounds like you do need to replace that part. Although it may be easier to find a spare nanocube 6g hood then to find and then solder out and solder in the new piece.

Could it possibly be the circuit board? i see browning along the edges of the white sockets but it doesnt smell burnt.

The coppercoils have rust along the metal but none along the copper itself.

The circuit board costs 21 bux at jbj and the hood itself costs 50 at nanotuners.

I have never been able to find the copper coils as i really dont know what to call it. lol

well I guess the $21 for the circuit board beats paying the full $50. Even though you may not have a warranty try calling up JBJ. You might be surprised, especially if you are going to buy a replacement circuit board from them.
