Hello! I am getting real close on construction of my first reef tank. Here is the run down of what I'm getting. PLEASE tell me if I'm good to go and please make suggestions on anything else I need.

I'm useing a 20g tank.
9w turbo twist UV
CPR C-siphon Overflow with a Aqualifter pump
I am makeing a 10g sump with a mag 5 pump
fission nano skimmer (I heard that these were not very good?)

I am not sure what type of lighting to use T5 or Metal Halide?

I'm going to get LS, LR.

What kind of test kits should I get?

Thanks for all your help. I am inviteing all of you over for burgers and beer, :alco: :moonin :fu

Sunnyaz,

Drop the fission nano skimmer. And at the least get Berlin airlift 60 used on ebay or a used skimmer on a forum.

T5 or Halide.... What corals are you wanting to keep? And if you think you'll eventually want SPS mine as well invest in a halide w/ PC's or T5's. But thats up to you.... I'd again buy them used too. Hmmm your in AZ... check out craigslist.com in your area, you never know.

Test kit for now a regular saltwater kit with ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and PH.

Make sure RO/DO water is used too! Oh yeah, everyone from nanotank will be over next weekend for burgers and beer!

I have used both the T5's and MHs, I prefer the T5's. Is this a standard 24" long or 30" long 20 gallon? What are your goals for corals? T5s can actually penetrate better than MH and can EASILY support clams/SPS. And like Island said, drop the nano skimmer, they are junk.

You know I'm not sure what kind of corals I like the brain and hammer and zoo's. I bought a coral book to read. It should be here soon. I figures I would read read read before I make a decision.

Nice.... Glad yor taking your time. I just came from a LFS in San Fracisco and saw a couple buying LR and corals, I hope the individuals working asked him if he was going to but everything in all at once. I would have said something but he yelled at his girlfriend/wife as if he knew what he was doing so I laid off with my two cents. Well, the forum is always here to help out. Oh yeah, I spent way too much today to! It comes with the hobby!

I saw a lady this weekend at a LFS purchase a Panther Grouper and 2 clown fish. I'm assuming they were going in the same tank. I overheard the worker state that they would be fine with the clowns and that the grouper grows really slow, that it should take years to outgrow her 75g tank. I wasn't sure the details when I was there, it wasn't until I got home and looked it up to see what they are like.
