Can anyone give us advice? Hus & I very new to this....cycling tank right now. Aquarium store tested water, said it's good, little high PH though. Got that under control. Last three nights, the temp in tank slowly increases after lights off. Heater is not lit up (does light up when in use). 3 nights ago was 79F now at 83F?!?!?!?!? Any knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks in advance PS fish are not doing well :iill

They are probably not doing well because they are living in a tank that is cycling which is a HUGE no no. Don't be surprised when they die and it isn't because of the warm water.

As far as the heat, take the heater out of the tank and see what happens. It is possible the heater is bad. What do you have in the tank for water movement? Often times power heads generate enough heat they can increase the temp. Also, is the tank near a heat source for the house. At night when the temps drop the heat to the house might be kicking on and directly heating the tank. Just a few thoughts but if I were you I would take the fish out of the tank and return to the store because you are killing them.

Whast kind of tank is it and what kind of pumps are you running? Also, you say the tank is cycling, but the fish store says the water is "good". How long has the tank been running?

Well, we live in Vegas....heater is not running. Lady @ fish store told us to put in the 2 damsels last week....they are doing better today. We had to put a fan in same room to circulate air.....this is all since this morning. Fan has helped bring it to 82F.

About the power heads generating heat, the PH was high, so lady said put in a bubbler.....that may be part of why it went up. I'll pass on this info to husband. Thanks so much!!

(feather duster seems to like all of the air flow, though)
we have:
20gal hex tank
koralia 400g/h fan
coralife light for live rock
and some kind of bubbler....I dunno

You can get a small clip on fan to blow air across the surface of the water. That will cool it some to but watch because it will increase evaporation.
