My new mushrooms!

How do I tell that my new green mushrooms are happy? They look okay to me, but I want to make sure that they are healthy. I know what to do to keep them that way, but how do I know if they are in a spot that has correct lighting and flow?
As well, someone I work with started a 20 gal nano the same time as I did. (4 weeks ago) She hasn't done any water changes and she doesn't monitor her ph. She does run a protein skimmer. She has three damsels and two gobies in there. She also just added three corals. One of them is a very pretty branch looking hard coral. She only has two fluorescent bulbs on her tank. Why does her tank seem to be running so well with no maintenance and no research, while I'm so cautious. (Only two fish, added them one at a time) and one coral. I do weekly 10% water changes, and monitor my ph daily. She doesn't even know what kind of corals she has, and what kind of care they require. Is she going to have this gorgeous nano, or will it crash eventually?

Her stuff will die.
If you were locked in a dark room, and fed nothing but diet coke and plain popcorn, you'd live for awhile, but eventually you'd die of malnourishment. Same thing's gonna happen to her tank, if she doesn't start doing some research and make some changes in her lighting, and husbandry.
