Do those evil voodoo masks make the fish happy?

I like your setup. I'll be back in H-town for christmas, I'll have to stop by and see everything in person!

A couple views of my livingroom. Can you tell we're not anywhere near unpacked yet?

Holy crap! I think you need to get a few more tanks in there...j/k

Those are great pics. I really like the 25 gallon tank. Its coming along nicely. What kind of shrimp are those again and do you think they would have territorial problems with a coral banded shrimp? Thinking about putting one in my 20.

It's funny how much more striking the tanks are now. We moved from a huge loft-style apartment, and these tanks were in our bedroom which was 25'x30' into a small house, and the tanks are in a room that is like 13'x19' or so.

They shrimp are harlequin shimp. They feed exclusively on the tube feet of starfish, so they're kinda messy eaters. I'm pretty overfiltered on that tank though so I hope it won't be an issue. I don't think they'd have a problem with a CBS, but the CBS might not like them. I got rid of my CBS because it was killing my other shrimp and even managed to attack a couple fish.

Wow, those are some weird looking shrimp! I've never seen anything like those before. Very colorful, though.
Is that a lionfish in your tank? How long have you had it? Do you have any other fish in there with it and if so, does the lion mess with any of them?

Yep that's a dwarf lion. I've had him about 6-7 months. I've been careful about what I put in a tank with him. Nothing small enough for him to fit in his mouth has been kept in a tank with him. At one point I had another fuzzy dwarf with him, as well as a lawnmower blenny, and a bluespot jawfish. They were all in the 40 gallon cube, which was quite a bit bigger, and they all got along fine. The move didn't go well, and he's the only one from that tank that survived. I'm thinking of getting a small cowfish to put in there with him, but I'm not sure. Right now I can have hermits in the tank as the cleanup crew. I'm not sure that hermits would survive a cowfish. Starfish are out as cleaners because the harlequin will eat them. Snails probably wouldn't survive a cowfish either. I'll have to do some more reading before I decide what else I'll put in there.
I'm thinking one more non-reef safe critter.

Here is a pic of our living room. We just have the large freshwater tank in there (nano is in the dining room).

This is what the fish in that tank have to look at 24/7

Nice swordfish Jennie! Your pics were not coming up at first but now they do sometime for me. Is anyone else having trouble seeing her pics?

I really like the 'my living room' post thing that is going on here. Might need to make it a permanent section one day. :D

I tried yesterday and today to see her pics but no luck so far. Yesterday photobucket was having issues and my pics weren't available either.

so what do you feed them when you don't have fresh starfish feet?
Nothing. That's all they eat. VERY specialized predators. I'm not sure how well they're working out. The smaller one seems to have disappeared. It's been a bit over 24hrs since I saw it, and I've been able to find the other one the whole time. The dwarf lionfish's stomach isn't rounded like he ate it, and I can pretty much see the whole aquarium. Maybe it stumbled into the tube anemone?

They're crazy looking! I'd really like to host those in my tank but hell...it sounds like they'd be crazy expensive to keep. What kind of starfish do you feed them? Live food too!

Actually it isn't that bad money wise. Even if my plan to rotate through several starfish doesn't work, and I have to buy them a new one each time I can get a chocolate chip star for $5-$8, and only need to give a pair of them one every 10 days or so. Now that it looks like I'm down to one shrimp the starfish should last that much longer......Maybe that's my silver lining. LOL
