Monaco style aquarium

Has anyone ever run a Monaco style aquarium? I intend to run a 20 long in this fashion, with no protein skimmer, and little dosing. Running a plenum under the substrate(just the plenum, not and under gravel filter) to create a low oxygen, or no oxygen area for bacteria to break down aragonite to calcium and nitrites to nitrates. Only other equip running is lights, heater, hob filter just full of live rock rubble, and a power head.

Anyone have any experience in this?

I have no experience with the Jaubert, or "Monaco-style", system. Here is what seems to be a good read though. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/ ... eature.htm

It is from 2002 so I dont know if all of the info is current. THe first problem I see though is that it seems the plenum and sand bed would have some substantial depth to it and a 20L is only 12" tall.

Let us know what you end up doing.

Weighing in late. The 3.5-4 inches of substrate bed would leave...ummm...about 8 inches of water 'height' in a 20GL. That's awfully shallow...but might make for an interesting display.
