Here's my pics. Tell me what you think.

This is my 78 watts of modified power on the JBJ Deluxe. I have 48 watts stock and then I upgraded to three 10 watt 03 actnic T-5. I have more inhabitants but they were shy during the picture snapping.

The tank is mature as all the live rock and live sand were transferred in from my original Nano Tank 24 watts from April this year. In October I became the proud owner of the Deluxe and I modified it 1 month later from www.nanocustoms.com.

I have started a 2.5 pico in my bedroom and will keep you posted on that with time.

I would also like to thank my little brother Dragon79 for helping me post the pics from tinypic.com to this site. He is also the proud owner of JBJ nano deluxe as you have probably seen his pics from his first run in the saltwater world.

We are open to questions and concerns and I hope I didn't keep you from too much of a wait.

Hey and lets not forget to thank my wonderful wife Nadia for allowing me to open my x-mas gift early. I'm the owner of the Canon Digital Elf S500 from which the pics were taken. I hope all you guys are having fun with your nanos.

Mikey!

I'm hella jealous...your tank looks awesome!! If you ever learn how to frag, be sure to send me a lil bit of everything, hehe.... J/K! Very nice, that yellow gumdrop looks like he's in heaven in your elegance coral. Very nice. Be sure to keep me as well as nanotank members posted with the latest on this tank and with your pico 2.5.

Everything looks great! Keep an eye on that clam, they need intense lighting.Croceas tend to prefer MH over PC's. You may notice the color fading if it isn't getting enough light.

How long have you had your elegance? They're one of my favorite corals, but I've never gotten one because so many people seem to have problems with them. I think the crocea will be fine under your light, but I'd be sure to chane your PC bulbs every 6-8months instead of annually. Your pics are great. The one thing I really don't like about curved glass is how difficult it makes it to get a decent picture.

I don't know much about the elegance, and I too like them as well, but I too heard they are hard to upkeep. Last thing I knew, Mike told me his elegance hasn't been doing too well, it hasn't been fully opening up. Mike can say more though...

Thanks for the replies guys,

The elegance coral is one of my oldest corals in the tank. He was purchased in April when I first got my original nano. I can say they are extremely hardy as I have had them in the past. The only problem is when I moved into our new home the move was difficult on the elegance.

Then in October I upgraded to the Nano Deluxe and he didn't like the move again. He has been fighting to stay healthy and he doesn't have any bleaching at all but he has refused to open like he has in the past.

So I know he is not doing great, but we will see, I've heard they can come back around. The yellow goby loves him to death, sleeps there and cleans him like a clown fish.

I also want you guys to know the pictures were taken at 8:30 in the morning and as compared to what my tank looks like at 12pm you would say wow. Everything blooms like you all know, especially my ric and my clam.

Well, I will certainly take pictures over the weekend so you can meet my other inhabitants they are really cool.

how long have yo had your clam, I really want one bad, little super color crocea, I have 80w over my 10g so thats more then you actually have, think it would be ok?

Exile,

Most definitely you could host the same clam as me. I have 78 watts of PC power under my hood. That calculates to about 7.8 watts per gallon for me I displace about 2 gallons with all my rocks, sump, sand, etc.

Now I've owned him for 2 months now and he is doing great. I did purchase him day one when I only had 48watt stock power and he hardly opened up.

When I added the extra high perfomance T-5 Actinic 03, there was a big difference in the clam. He immediately opened up super wide and is benefiting from the light source which hits him directly.

Now I also feed him every other day Marine Kent phytomax. One drop in a 8 oz cup of bottled water and then I olnly pour in 2 oz in my tank. He loves it and so do my corals.

Hope this helps you out....

Mike

thanks, yea im goign to try a crocea soon as I get some cash for one, Id like to get one very small, like 1 1/2 - 2 inches, anyone know where to get one this tiny? all I see is 2-3

The smaller the clam is the more dependent it is on phyto for fuel. If it's under 2" be sure to feed very regularly, and I'd go with DT's as your phytoplankton source. It's much better for your clams than the dead or freeze-dried stuff. Also keep it as close to the lights as possible.

Wow, great pics Mike! Your tank looks so symmetrical. The rics look great.

I did notice that some of your zoanthids in the middle were closed up on the right side. It is possilbe that the torch on the right is touching it on occasion. Just an observation. Can't wait to see pics of your 2.5!

all I have is frozen cubes of a mix of zoo and phyto plankton, cant get my hands on DT's as noone wants to sell it, if anyone could pick some up for my id buy it off you soon as I decide to get my clam

Hi DJ,

Glad I was finally able to post my pics, I was waiting for my Digital Elf Canon S500. I had told you what was under the hood but no pics, but not any more.

Like I mentioned I took pics too early in the morning before I had to go to work. Had it been the weekend, I would have snapped the pics at noon and it would be a lot more beautiful.

You are right, that torch is way to big for my tank, I need to learn how to frag it so I can put some of it in my 2.5 which is still just all live rock and live sand, tommorow is 2 full weeks of cycling.

I have only 4 red hermit crabs in it and two very small frags with polyps. DJ I see the diatoms building on my nice rocks in my 2.5, I forget how long till they die out and fade away?

Thats why I'm waiting before I add any thing more into that tank. It only has 18 watts of power just going to be a mushroom/ polyps type of tank with one small cool fish. (It's in the bedroom).

I hate that ugly brown diatoms over my rock. My brother Dragon79 is experiencing the same thing because he started his Nano Tank 3 days after I set up my 2.5.

Is there anything you guys did to speed up the process? And rid yourself of the ugly diatom bloom?

Mike

never mind on the DT's request, they sell it on the site SM gave me, those clams look great might get one of the croceas, probably either c-29,30,31, or 32 all look amazing

yeah, they are gorgeous aren't they. Since you're going with a small clam, you'll want to feed it outside the tank. Most people put them in a separate bowl with tank water and dose the dt's and let it puff away for an hour or so before you put it back in the main tank. Small clams need alot of dt's and if you dose that much in your main tank it can foul the water quality up.

ok, sounds good, yea im thinking a baby maxima, get them $35 on this site, ultra color blue, il take him out probably every other day and direct feed him in the stuff, thanks
