Live rock ATE my frogspawn!

Okay....I got a BEAUTIFUL frogspawn frag (nanosize, only about 2 inches long) today, and I went to stick him in a hole, and he fell into it, and got jammed into it or something, and I cannot find the bugger. The rock has a hollow part on the inside, opening to a little cave like thing. Unless I pull my main rock out I cannot find him.

I am SOOO upset...he was a neon green color and a perfect size for my tank. I am pulled and prodded, and I cannot get him, and he didnt fall through the back side either, as I checked that too...my finger did find a nice sized bristle worm though!! :cryinga: :cryinga: :cryinga: :cryinga: :cryinga: I am ssooo sad.

But hey, my question is once I get over losing him in my tank, and he dies in the rock, will this potentially foul my tank? Should I be worried about this, or just suck it up and get over it?

Anyone have any frogspawn/hammer coral frags that they want to sell? I waited for this frag from a friend, and it was stunning...neon green. And I LOST it...I am just so MAD!

sorry to hear but if it were me it would be hammer and chisel time......... break that sucker free!!!! restack the rock - better then losing a prized coral! i tore a whole end of my reef apart once to save a 2" frag and this was in the 125g - so not an easy task but worth it

I agree with J&D on this one... you dont want that thing rotting in your tank, plus it sounds like a great frag! You may end up liking the new rock arrangment better abyway!

Rock surgery!!!! If you like the rock try cutting it as carefully as you can and maybe you can even epoxy it back together. No rock is worth a prize specimen - IMHO anyway.

:D :D :D :D I took all of your advice, and just spent 2 hours getting my frag! I went ahead and carefully moved rock around, and ended up finding my grag wedged up tight in the rock. I worked him a little bit, and he popped out! It was quite a scene, I have different corals epoxied to the main rock so I was hesitant to pull her out, so I had both hand up to my armpits diggin' in the cube.....
I am glad I didnt just let it go...I liked the frag, and was worried about it fouling the tank.

Since I was up to my armpits in saltwater, I went ahead and did a water change and general maintenance too!

The frag is nothing too great, but is a neon green that I have not seen on frogspawn, and it was my first frag specially cut for me. I have a thing for bright colors...and they thought if I was going to have some frogspawn, it should be bright!

Thanks guys!

I'm happy to hear you got your frag out safe and sound!

Did you end up using the same LR formation or a new one?

--> PiratesReef (Gary)!
hhhmm... epoxy, being a newbie, I would have never thought of that. Thanks for the tip!

Do you have any pics with your new tank edition?

Ha! Congrats on your successful retreival! Where you able to piece the rock back together or did you end up with several smaller peices? Any pictures?

Will take pics soon

I will take a pic once he becomes adjusted and extends more. He was hurting pretty bad from being wedged for a few hours. He's nothing spectacular...just a pretty frogspawn in my eyes.

Thanks though for the advice to get the little buggar out.
