Little brothers 20long

Thought this was pretty cool so I figured I'd share it with the group. My little brother came up on this 20 long a couple months ago and this morning told me he wants to set it up. So at about lunch we started the project and got as far as the below pictures. We broke out the dremel and started on the 3 holes that need to be cut, bought some plumbing stuff, and custom made our own overflows out of acrylic. Still have some work ahead of us but at this point I think its coming out pretty well.

What do you guys think?

Just done cutting the first hole.

Gluing together 1 of the 2 corner overflow boxes.

overflow mock up... little bro's getting excited!..LOL!

Both overflows sitting in the tank with the new return config.

Just waiting on some pieces from the glass shop and then we'll finish up the 10 gallon sump and that's about as far as we are.

As always... your input is appreciated.

That's our little brother. There's 4 of us

Off to a good start but still a long road ahead... it'll probably be up and running with rock by mid next week though.

Take care MG

It looks like you two were having a very good time!

The tank is coming right along, the dual overflows will be very nice!

Yeah we were. Just got done cleaning out the fuge ;)

Made a little progress today. Got the other two holes drilled. Just gotta make a run for some PVC then we'll silicone the overflows in. After that we'll be waiting a couple days until the glass shop calls and has our baffles in before we can do anything else.

All cleaned up. We'll start the siliconing tomorrow. The overflows are just sitting in there. What do ya think? I'm pretty happy with it so far.

I really like it. Do you have any idea on what will go in the tank when the time comes or is that still in the planning stages?

Thanks guys.

As for plans I dont think little bro is sure yet. We made the tank to handle the turnover required for SPS but I dont think either of us are completely sold on SPS quite yet. I know he's gunning for ricordia and zoo frags from me so it'll probably turn into a mixed reef.

The temporary light will be a 4x39 watt T5 teklight. I'm trying to acquire an empty 30" aluminum light fixture and plan to work with the guy who made my reflector to design a light custom for this tank. Maybe do two 150watt HQI's and two 75watt VHOs.

Filtration will be the 10 gallon sump and then I think we're going to make the skimmer.

THis should be a pretty interesting project. I plan to make just about everything for the setup. Hopefully I do a good job for my little bro.

We'll see... I'm sure we'll put some SPS in there but they just dont move or do anything interesting IMO.... maybe I just havent been around em enough to really appreciate em. Thanks for the compliment by the way. We appreciate it.

Got some plumbing done today.

Inside portion of the durso. Still need to install some screens though.

Overflows all siliconed in and drying. Just a waiting game now.

The glass for the sump should be in tomorrow and then we'll start that project.

That is a sweet setup! I'll be PMing you in about 8 months once I move into my house so I can get some Directions on how to make that set up. Right now I just have the 20L. Nice job though, I need a Big Brother like you! :maitre :D

Whatever you guys decide to do with that tank will be quite nice I am sure. You are doing a good job, I especially liked the fact that you used unions on your plumbing connections.

Hey thanks Skip.

Gotta love unions... I've learned that lesson the hard way and wouldnt do it any other way. I had to entirely redo my plumbing on an old tank cause I didnt pop for the unions when originally doing the plumbing.

quick update. Got the sump finished, bought and sealed a stand, and have a Mag 7 return pump on its way from Marine Depot.

Got the glass from the shop this morning and finished up the sump.

Baffles siliconed into place.

I'll post some pics of the stand here shortly.
