This is my 1st post here..... just discovered this board. Lots of useful info ...thanks

Right now I have 3 PC's on my nano. 1-actinic, 1 50/50 (actinic/10k) and 1 10k bulb. It looks very white and I would enjoy more of the deep purple look.

I thought about going with 1 actinic and 2 - 50/50 (actinic/10k).

Do you feel this would be beneficial to my corals or should I stick with the lights I have. I rather be kind to my corals than go with too much actinic just to please my eyes.

Thanks reefers,
Mark

p.s. mainly zoo's and softies

I think that the current configuration is better for your corals. the actinics arent as intense, but they have their benefits. How many watts are the bulbs? What size is your tank. What kind of corals are you housing?

And welcome to nanotank...you'll love it here.

Jesse,

I have a 12 gallon JBJ Nanocube with 3, 24 watt bulbs (72 watts total or @6 watts/gal). Corals are 75% zoos (lots of them), and a few mushrooms, ricordea, etc. A moderate/light bio load- 4 hermits, 8 snails, 1 tailspot blennie, 1 clown goby.

Everything is doing well, just not crazy about the lighting color, but will stay with what I have if going heavy on the actinic is not the greatest idea.

Even though your current configuration will be more beneficial to your corals, it doesn't hurt to buy another 50/50 bulb and experiment with it. Shrooms and zoos don't require that much intense lighting, and I'm sure they will do just fine with that config as well.

In case you change your mind and want to back to your old light setup, you still have a brand new 50/50 light that sooner of later will be used for a replacement bulb.

Welcome aboard :)

:welcome

The combination that you have now if fine, but experiment to your hearts content  . If you are very familiar with your livestock and get a combination of bulbs that are not benificial to your livestock, then you'll notice and can revert back to what you previously had.

Again, Welcome to Nanotank!

Try running two of the 50/50's and a true actinic in between. I have two 40 watt 50/50's on my tank and they are pretty nice. I imagine if i added an actinic it would look pretty blue.

we are running on ours a 50/50 bulb and an actinic , for a bluer look and everything seems to be doing ok with that configuration

Thanks All,

What I ended up with was:

1-24w Actinic
1-24w Coralife 50/50 (actinic/10,000K)
1-24w JBJ 50/50 (blue7100K/10,000K)

Looks much better, not quite as "stark white". Still bright, just slightly softer.
