I run noon to midnight (12hrs) on all my tanks including my 5.5 but that might be slightly more than most reefers. I've always done it that way...

I run 12hrs on my nano at work.
12hrs on the 40g cube.
8hrs on the 25g.
8hrs VHO-4hrs MH/VHO on the 75g.

I run my lights for 12 hrs as well. I cut back to 8 hrs for a while due to some algae issues but got that under control and so am back to 12 hrs. I think as long as you can control the algae there is nothing wrong with a 12 hr cycle as my corals seem to like it.

I also run around 12 hours with the exception of my nanocube which is currently lit for 9 hours daily due to some nuisance algae trying to get a grip on the tank.

Right, so nine hours it is. That seems to be the consensus......Does everyone use timers on theier nano's to run the lights?? I currently don't use one on my 29, but I'm thinking about getting one for my 5.5.

i use timex digital timers.....they aren't the best, but they do the job. Sometimes they can reset, but for the most part it's working fine here. I run a 8 hour cycle for my tank, just the right amount, it's working out fine. When the tank matures, I may increase the time.

I use a Noma digital timer ment for x-mas lights. It has 8 settins as was a steal at $5.99 on sale. I've had it almost 3 years now and it is still working great.

As for time...i have always run about 10 hours daylight 10:30 to 8:30 and a moonlight the rest of the time.

Yeah I use a coralife power strip with timer. It works perfectly since it has two daylight (10K and actinic) outlets and two nighttime (moon lights and fuge light) outlets. It also has 4 constant power outlets I use for my PH, filter and heater. I would highly recommend it.

can you post a link to these noma digital timers? I need a real dependable one for my fans. Right now I have it running 24/7, but was thinking I could control that and have it on like from the lights turn on and then off a couple hours later after the lights turned off. Just a thought. Thanks.
