Lighting acclimation?

I have just recently bought a 70 W jbj viper mh for my 6 g nano. i am curious on what the acclimation period should be from a 18 W PC, and also how long should i leave that kind of light on in a normal day? I usually leave my PC on from 6 AM to 9 PM. Is that too much?

a 12 hour cycle is most common. try to stay with what nature offers. As for acclimating. That's a big jump for a 6 gallon.

I don't have much experience with this so I'm sure others will be able to offer better advice but you'll probably want to start off with just an hour or two a day with the light as high off the water as you can. drop all the corals to the sand as well.

would it be possible to have the MH on for a couple of hours and then the PC the rest of the day and slowly add a longer MH cycle and less PC?

crap.i forgot all about light acclimation. I went from a 15 watt actinic to a 65 watt corallife 50/50. can corals die from that? so far the only thing thats acting funny is my leather toadstool coral.(polyps come out on and off through out the day)
