lettuce nudibranch

I've ordered a lettuce nudibranch to help control the HA in my JBJ NC12DX. Does anyone have any experience with these? If you run out of algae in your tank, can you feed it something else? I've taken other steps to control the HA (not yet succesful, but promsing) and don't want to starve the little critter.

Thanks,
Karen

Nudis have VERY specific diets. They are generally a bad choice for nanos... once the limited amount of food has been depleted, they will die unless moved to another tank.

They have diets that are usually limited to a specific item and they sometimes look very similar to that item. the most drastic example of this IMO is the species that eats only xenias...

Keep an eye on him, when the HA is on the way out, see if you can trade him off or move him to someone elses tank if that is possible.

Or start another hairy tank of my own?

Hey sometimes it can be an easy harvest of Hair algea. Check with the local reefers in your area, the LN should be easily enough adopted out when the food source runs out. If you leave it in there after the hair algea is gone unfortunately it will starve to death.

Jennie,

Thanks for the advice. That sounds like a good plan. I'm not giving up the idea of starting another tank though....... I think I might finally be getting the hang of this.

Karen, the more tanks the merrier!

I say that all the time, just not in the same room as my husband

Hyuk hyuk!! :D My BF squirms when I mention more tanks too.....so now I'm thinking of finding homes for my freshies and converting their 29 over to marine. I love them, but the marine stuff is so much more interesting. I'm obsessed!! I sit in front of the stupid thing every night and look for new critters. We might as well cancel the cable.
