led moonlight idea

I have used a nail file to file then buff my leds to a flat surface just where it would come back to its full size after the rounded tip. ( see picture) Just something that i did in order to get a better light field out of my led for short tanks. Seems to be a good solution. Ideas? Pictures are taken with same settings

nice idea. on the ones that i have built myself I just purchase the wide angle lens on the LED but they usually still end up light your before picture. I might have to make some new moonlights with some PVC and give it a try.

I recently read a thread somewhere where another reefer did the same thing, I think it helps the tank look more evenly lit.

I think that even with the wide angle you still have a rounded tip and when you flaten the end you get a much more even effect (basic lens physics there).

if you use a drill on them ( small one though you can created a built in reflector that way dispersing even a wider area of light verses a flat top
