i got a bigger tank

Ok i was out shopping with my girlfriend and she drug me to this yard sell when we got there on a table was a SeaClear 50 Gallon System II Aquarium :loveface :loveface the tank had lots of small scratches on it but nothing i could not get out with a little elbow grease i asked the lady about the tank she told me it belonged to her sun who is off in college and no longer wants the tank and she had it sitting in her backyard for over a year and wants to get rid of it so long story short she sold me the tank for 60 bucks and i ran with it to my car :dancing:

my question is has any one used one of these tanks for a reef and did you have to make any modifications???

The biggest things I think will need to be done are to get rid of any bio media and add lighting that is appropriate for what you plan on keeping in the tank. A protien skimmer would be another option if it doesn't have one already. The only other thing I can think of right now is upgrading the return pump to increase flow. Post some pics of it from different angles, the only pic I was able to bring up on the link was a front shot.

I will put up some tank pics soon but i know pets mart has a pump upgrade and a skimmer just for this system the lighting i am not sure yet but i dont want to spend over 300 on the lights

Do you know what the tank was used for previously? Freshwater or saltwater?

Gang: Isn't the possible use of copper medications in the tank's past a potential problem?? I've alway been wary of previously used tanks. Is this a problem, or should we not have to worry about that?

While there is some possibility of copper leaching back into saltwater from silicone on a previously dosed freshwater tank, it's very small.

Unless the tank was a QT tank for a store, and copper-based medications were ALWAYS in it I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think that use of copper is as big a deal in an acrylic tank. This would be a good experiment to make sure though.
