Looks cool, but kinda may be extreme or overkill for a 10 gallon tank...not entirely sure. If it displaced all that lighting power in your tank, and didn't have heating issues, I'd think you'd be able to take on much more than just the basics you mentioned...for what you have there, you could skate by with 24 watts.

That is a really nice light. I say do it. Not bad at $88.00 either. With that light, you really could keep just about anything in your tank (except some SPS) and you wouldn't be restricted in the future.

As for heat, it has two built in fans which should help combat heat issues.

I have that exact light over my standard 10g and the whole setup is under the kitchen cabinets and there is no heating issue whatsoever and I love the light

That light will work fine...My wife has it over her 10g. I will warn you that she's had two leathers bleach out because it is a lot of light for a 10g. I think she could have aquascaped her tank a bit to get some more shady areas, but she didn't want a ton of rock in there. She gets about the same amount of evap that my large tanks do. Probably about 1/8-1/4 gallon a day or so. A top off system is definitely in order with this light. She doesn't have any heat issues. Spend the extra few bucks on the legs.

I've got a 32w over my 6g at work. I've got mushrooms, leathers, zoos, candy canes and some star polyps. Personally I'd go with the 96w. But you can still do lots of stuff with that 28w one.

A lot of people start off with weaker lights because they're cheaper. Once they've had their tanks up a couple months, and they start learning more about corals, and the light requirements, they end up upgrading because the original lights aren't bright enough to keep what they'd like.

If you went with the 28w light, you might be kicking yourself in 4 months when you have to go ahead and order the 96w one anyway.

This is what he meant.
