i would like to know if 60w pc would be enought to keep a hippo clam in a 10 gallon tank.
Nope.
I'm one of the few people you'll find that will argue the MH requirements of all clams, and I don't think that'll be enough light for it. Generally if you ask on any board about light requirements for clams everyone hollers MH. I think there are ways to keep them under PC's or T-5's or maybe even VHO's but not all clams would be good candidates for the experiment, and 60w is just too small an amount anyway. Since placing Hippopus clams up higher in the rockwork isn't an option, (they are substrate dwellers), I wouldn't put them under less than 100w PC lighting in a 10gal tank. The problem with trying to keep clams under PC's is you need to change them every 6 months or so. It's much cheaper to get a 70w or 150w MH light that you change once a year than changing the PC lamps twice a year.
