Hermit dead parisite of some kind

My red leg hermit developed string like things potruding form its body more and more of them appeared as the week progressed, it soon died. it was quite hollow it had not shed as it was no where in the tank i waited a few days and no sign of it it HAD definitely died.
Any ideas What it could be and is it infectious to the other inverts i am housing in there?

im sorry but i have never heard of anything that you descibed. if it is a parasite i would remove the shell and remains. the longer it is in your tank the more likely it will spread. im not really sure what to use to kill parasites in a reef tank. ill do some research and see what i can up with. until then hopefully someone will chime in and have some answers
