Hermit Behavior

A few days ago I placed a few shells into my tank for my hermit crabs to change into. While I was watching I observed this...

The hermit crab would look into a shell to check if it was suitable. Then, before it entered the shell, it would twist the shell and keep turning it until bubbles and sand came out. I thought it was pretty neat and thought I would share. Anybody else observe this?

I haven't observed this particular behavior, but it seems you have a smart little critter!

Sea dawg,

I seen that before.... Isn't interesting how smart they are. I have even seen a scarlet fight a blue leg for a shell too
