My purple hairy finger leather has a few white spots on it and is not standing straight up, it looks like its falling over. I have only had it two days. Is it dying?
Thats pretty vauge with out some good pics? Do you have a camera that can snap a good pic or two or a friend that will do the honors? It would help a lot...
the camara i have wont really show much. they look like little white specks of sand not on the polyps on the body. the coral keeps slumping over, then perking back up.
I'm not sure what it is. Have you checked your water parameters lately? I don't have any idea really. I would check water flow, type of light it had and now has, and if anything is messing with it (other corals, fish, or inverts?).
It had t5 lights at the store & i have under metal hilides, but I am acclamting it slow to the lights (only a couple hours a day). some of the hermit crabs & snails move around it & on it.
Even after acclimatation under halides...thats some pretty intense light for them to be under and do well too. I have tried it on numerous occasions even with the Yellow Leathers that are supposed to require a bit more lighting than normal and had no success.
White specks of sand...if they progress to bigger specks and look kinda like cottage cheese in texture that could be the start of tissue necrosis. This is just a shot in the dark since there are no good close up pics of the coral.
I think it maybe a a little pre-mature to think its tissue necrosis. It hasnt spread at all & it didn't start on the base, but on the stem. I heard that leathers shed there skin from time to time is it possible that it maybe that?
Tim,
I did a full water test when I got home from work. Everything seems fine, here is how it turned out:
Calcium- 440
Kh- 9
Phosphate- 0ppm
Nitrate- 0ppm
Nitrite- 0ppm
Ph- 8.2
Ammonia- 0ppm
I went to a different store today & ask if they knew what was going on, they told me it was normal & I shouldn't worry about. They said that it maybe shedding. Do you or anyone else know if that is true that leathers shed?
