Help Reefers,

Like the title says, I did an impulse purchase at my LFS. Don't you guys hate it when you go for one particular fish and it's not there and they tell you come back on Tuesday for the next shipment.

Then you walk around the shop and you see nothing you really want but don't want to leave without anything so you bring home a fish you really never wanted.

I purchased 8 blue/green chromis and brought them home and they are really neat they school together and never bother any other fish.

But I notice that when ever I walk up to the tank they go crazy anticipating feeding. They have even trained my other fish to go crazy too. It's as if they hear the dinner bell.

Well, I have an expensive yohsa goby at the bottom and he usually waits for flakes to hit the bottom so he can feed; well with my piranhas that is not possible.

I have to do two sets of feedings on separate sides of the tank just to get him some food.

SO HOW WILL I BE ABLE TO CATCH THESE FISH AND TAKE THEM BACK; ANY TRICKS OR ANY TRAPS THAT WILL WORK; I'M ENLISTING THE EXPERTS HERE FOR MY LACK OF JUDGEMENT ON SCHOOLING CHROMIS.

Thanks,

Mike

I had the same problem with a few Damselfish a purchased to cycle a tank once. I didn't feed them for two days, so they would be very hungry by the time food was offered again.

I placed a large net in the water, fed them and was able to catch almost all of them. These guys are quick and get alarmed once the net is the water…It took me almost a week to get all of them.

Best of luck Mike.

fishing pole, bait, and patience, when they bite, pull and reel them in.

oh wait, this isn't fishing huh? lol. Best advice out there, use a big net, stick food in it, when they go to swim in there to eat some, swoop them out.

there's actually a LFS around here that did that. used some barbless hooks with squid on the ends to clear out a 300 gal reef. they didnt' want any fish in it any more so they caught them all this way.
